This is amazing. The tones in this are just perfect, and the mood is very eerie. Love the touch with the bird -- although the photo would be interesting enough just because of the tones in the background, this gives it an incedible anchor point to relate to... Excellent work!

Might I ask about the technique and equipment you were using? I'm wondering if the tones are real or if it was manipulated (not that it matters to me, just curious)?

Thanks John. I shot this with my 70-200 f/4 L on my digital rebel. The colors were not manipulated at all. I actually destaturated it a bit because the clouds were posturized a bit in some spots. Lots of red in that sky. This was just after the sun had set, maybe 5 or 10 minutes after. I shot this hand held at ISO 200, f/4, and 1/400.

Beautiful tones in this . . . I love how it's slightly abstract if you don't look at the bird.

Thanks :) I live very close to Lake Erie. It's 5 minutes from my house, and I drive eastward home from work along the lake the whole way. There is a magical sunset every night, and I have trouble restraining myself when I'm driving by with my camera. One of my favorite things to do is to stop and take a few photos after a long day at work, and that's when a lot of these photos are captured. Thanks very much for commenting and faving! :D

Thanks :) I suppose it is abstract. I never really thought of it like that.
