Artist's Comments

This is a Great Blue Heron, and a similar shot to [link] .

Both were taken at the LaDue Reservoir. I gave it this title for a few reasons. I had to be very patient to get this shot. I was at the lake for about 45 minutes before I saw this guy. When I first saw him, he was back in the woods. I waited for another 40 minutes or so for him to come out into the water. He was also very patient, waiting for the right moment to strike and catch a fish. He sat completely motionless for several minutes at a time. In fact, this is a 4 second exposure. I never did see him catch a fish, although he did make several attemps over the course of the next half hour or so that I watched him.

Awesome mood and composition. As you found out 'Patience' is a key in wildlife.

WOW. wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. :D :+fav: so very beautiful and... well, BLUE.

my favorite of the 3... while the colors are beautiful in all of them. I didn't like the erie feeling that came from the one with the flash, and I think the wider angle on this one gives it more of a scenic shot, placing the bird in it's environment (beyond the water, thatis). Great job with all of them, though!

Thanks Doug :)

Serene and perfect, Matt. You have shot and cropped it beautifully. It reminds me of a silk tapestry.

very serene and beautiful. the composition is wonderful, and i can imagine much patience in both the picture itself and the photographer: it is never easy taking photos of animals.

the colours are very surreal, it is almost unimaginable to my eyes. again, the colours bring about a chilling atmosphere.

absolutely stunning image:nod:
